The universal appeal of universal chargers isn’t surprising. Woodworkers, carpenters and contractors, among other users, want the convenience of being able to charge batteries from several different cordless power tools made by different companies. These battery chargers save money, time and space spent on buying and using several different charges for virtually every cordless power tool.

This is the case with Dewalt DC9310 Battery Charger! This can be used to charge several different types of batteries made by several brands, too, from DeWalt to Black & Decker. The product is, admittedly, more expensive than other charges from La Crosse Technology and Black & Decker, for example, but it’s worth every dollar considering its versatile quality.

Features of the DeWalt DC9310 7.2-Volt-18-Volt 1-Hour Charger

The DeWalt brand is among the most trusted in the power tools industry for good reasons. The company’s products are the right combination of durability, practicality and versatility, even in beauty in terms of ergonomic designs.

But does the DeWalt DC9310 live up to such high standards set by the company? Based on its notable features, it does but that’s our personal opinion so you can agree or disagree with it depending on your personal experience with it.

  • Made of durable materials
  • Ergonomic design
  • Charges all DeWalt NiCd/NiMH/track saw batteries with volt capacity from 7.2 volts to 18 volts

With its bright yellow case, you can’t miss the DeWalt DC9310 on your table. Beyond the color, the case appears to be made of strong and sturdy plastic so even with an occasional drop, it will likely survive.

With its 1.4-pound weight, you can transfer it from one place to another depending on where you want to charge your batteries. Such portability works to your benefit when you have projects away from your workshop, such as outdoors, in the office, or inside your home.

You will also find that it’s easy to handle, thanks to its compact dimensions (9.5 x 8.4 x 3.8 inches), although it’s always best to charge batteries on a flat surface.

The Dewalt DC9310 Battery Charger is also easy to use out of the box. You don’t have to perform complicated set-up steps since it’s a plug-and-charge operation. But it still pays to read the instruction manual just to be on the safe side.

Most battery chargers are largely judged by their performance. As previously mentioned, the DeWalt DC9310 can be used with all of DeWalt’s batteries that fall into these categories:

  • Between 7.2 volts and 18 volts
  • NiCd batteries
  • NiMH batteries
  • Li-Ion batteries
  • Track saw batteries

The bottom line: You can charge most of your batteries for your various cordless power tools on a single charger! Many customers even say that it can be used with a pseudo-sine 12-volt inverter. Most of them also say that this can be used in charging Black & Decker batteries and we will take their word for it.

But there’s also an exception – you can’t charge Univolt batteries although the manufacturer doesn’t explain why. We deem it best not to test the validity behind the exception for safety reasons.

Furthermore, when placing a non-DeWalt battery into the charger, be sure not to press too firmly into it since it can damage the unit itself. If it doesn’t fit well, then it probably isn’t compatible with the charger. In case of Black & Decker batteries, there’s a slightly tight fit so there’s also a slight difficulty in placing and removing the battery but it works well enough.

What about the charging time? For most batteries, a full charge can be achieved within one hour or so. You can then be more productive because of the reduced downtime, not to mention that the three-stage charging system ensures maximum runtime. The combination of minimum charging time and maximum runtime is a great feature.

And then there’s the diagnostics with LED indicators, which display the battery charge status. These include charging, charged, replace pack, power line problem, and battery either too cold or too hot.

Pros

  • Easy to use and handle
  • Made of durable materials and construction
  • Charges almost all types of batteries except Univolt batteries
  • Fast charging time within an hour or less
  • LED indicators are helpful
  • Comes with 3-year limited warranty, 1-year free service contract, and 90-day money-back guarantee

Cons

  • Flimsy packaging

DeWalt DC9310 Battery Charger – Our Verdict

If you’re looking for a universal battery charger that will replace your numerous battery chargers for your cordless power tools, then we suggest getting the Dewalt DC9310 Battery Charger. You will appreciate its near-universal compatibility with your cordless power tools’ batteries, as well as its one-hour charging time, its safety features, and its three-stage charging system. You may even dispose of your other chargers to make way for the DeWalt DC9310; leaving a few of the dedicated chargers is still a good idea since it isn’t compatible with all batteries, such as Univolt and 20-volt batteries.
